The company was incorporated on November 10 1852 as the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada to build a railway between Montreal and Toronto.

Scope and Content
Map shows Grand Trunk routes in Canada which includes areas of Ontario and Quebec as well as connections in Manitoba, New Brunswick and parts of New England. The Useful Information for Farmers printed on the reverse of the map provides helpful descriptions for new settlers including Free Land Grants, Rented Farms, Lands for Sale to Actual Settlers, Settler's Equipment, Farm Labourers and Domestic Servants, Ontario As a Home for the Tenant Farmer, Access To Market, Soil Productions, Stock Raising and Dairy Farming. The information presented is geared towards British immigrants as it compares weather in Ontario vs conditions in Britain. The Grand Trunk corporate headquarters were located in London England.
