File contains various material pertaining to the name of Arnprior (Scotland and Canada). Clipping and typescript of a letter to the editor by Peter Hessel (1995). The true meaning of Arnprior is “the arn of the priory”, i.e. an arn (or section of land) belonging to the 13th century Augustinian priory of Inchmahome [now ruined], which is situated on an island near the Lake of Menteith, SW of Callander, Scotland [see map]. The name does NOT mean “the priory on the river Arn”, as was mistakenly suggested by some Canadian writers, an error that is often repeated! Near the Priory is the present village of Arnprior.
Key terms: Name of Arnprior; Arnprior name; Arnprior, Scotland.
