1. Clipping from Chronicle, March 12, 1964 regarding public school budget (2.5 mills lower). In 1964, the Arnprior Public School Board budgeted to raise $29,465 for debentures and $40,000 for operational purposes. Chairman: M.J. Smolkin. Supervising Principal was Walter A. Zadow. There were two public schools in Arnprior: Central (later named Walter Zadow) and Alexander Reid (which had an enrolment of 122 students). In 1964, Central had an attendance of 552.
2. Photocopy of short article from Arnprior Anniversary Booklet, 1987 re Walter Zadow Public School. Cornerstone for Central School was laid on June 10, 1925 by the Lt. Governor of Ontario, after the former public school had been levelled by fire. First kindergarten established in 1949. Addition to Central School began in 1951, four-room annex was demolished to make room for ten modern classrooms, two kindergartens, an auditorium, washrooms, offices and a modern kitchen. Staff increased to 18 teachers, enrolment: 565 students. Official opening of the new building: Oct. 7, 1952 by Premier Frost of Ontario. Enrolment in 1987: 580; Doug Fraser was principal.
