Scope and Content
This collection of four family portraits is presumed to be of Gillan family members. The former owner of the house where these items were found was Edna Gillan. One portrait has "Mrs. J. Gillan" written on the back. The two oval portraits are of males. The two flat portraits are of one male and one female. It is not clear which Gillan family these portraits portray. There were Gillan families in Arnprior (James Gillan), McNab Township, Pakenham (Charles Gillan) and Fitzroy. The Gillan Mineral Water Springs which later became "Dominion Springs" was located on Francis Gillan's farm (Lot 10 Con 2 of Fitzroy). W. J. Gillan, proprietor, was established there in 1836.
Notes
Arthur & Maureen Gillan who live on Dominion Springs Road visited the AMBA in May 2013 to try to identify the portraits but were unable to identify anyone.
