Arnprior Winter Sports Ltd. was established in 1935 out of the need in the community for a better sports facility and to promote recreational winter sports in the town. As the letters of patent indicate, the purposes and objects were to a) erect, maintain and operate a skating rink and curling rink, a badminton hall and general assembly hall, b) to promote hockey, skating , curling, badminton, boxing and other athletic sports and pastimes, c) to carry on the business of vendors of artificial ice and d) to acquire the property and liabilities of the Arnprior Rink Company Ltd.
Originally, the directors of the company were John Henry Findlay, Mary Margaret Frieday and Mayme Lillian Wilson. Later, directors included W. W. Weed (chairman), C. A. Mulvihill, R. A. Jeffery, J. H. Box, J. C. Yule, H. A. Short, A. D. F. Campbell, A. N. Davieau and D. L. McKerracher. The capital of the company was forty thousand dollars divided into seven hundred and eighty preference shares of fifty dollars each and one thousand common shares of one dollar each. Property adjacent to the Arnprior Rink Company Ltd. from Elgin Street to the railway was purchased from Arthur Burwash in October 1935 for four hundred dollars. M. Sullivan and Son Ltd. demolished the old skating and curling rinks and build a new rink for $30,800.00.
In 1956, shareholders of the company agreed to turn over the assetts and holdings of the company to the town provided that Kenwood mills agreed to surrender its two-thirds of the stock, and provided that the town agree to run the rink as a community centre under a Recreation Commission.

The records were donated in September 2000 by Arthur McLean, partner in the law office of McLean and Moore.
Scope and Content
The fonds consists of the corporate records of the Arnprior Winter Sports organization including:
1) Minute book containing letters patent, director’s registry, bylaws, list of Shareholders, Deed of Gift and minutes from 1935 to 1956.
2) Folder of correspondence and share certificates related to the winding up the company and subsequent donation to the Town of Arnprior in 1957.
