Mr. Cecil Watson purchased appendices to the 1851 Journals at auction and donated them in 2004.
Scope and Content
Fonds consists of various appendices of the 1851 Journals of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada:
V - Z and AA - KK in 2003. They deal with a wide range of government issues such as the Report of the Standing Committees on Printing, returns of post masters (listing all post offices and masters in Canada) and appointments of magistrates.
Of particular interest are the returns of “Officers employed on the Ottawa River and it tributaries in the collection of timber duties..” This appendix GG also lists all people employed on slides at Calumet, Chats slide, the Madawaska works, High Falls and the Madawaska Bridge as well as their salary and period worked.
Other appendices list salaries and pensions to Missionaries of the Church of England and other denominations. Another appendix deals with the costs of running the Provincial Lunatic Asylum.
