Custodial History
In 2017, it was found that the McDougall Mill Museum collection held two handwritten letters signed by the Laird Archibald McNab and William Yuill. At a meeting of the Board of Directors, it was decided that the letters should be deaccessioned to the AMBA. According to documentation from the museum, the letters were originally donated to the museum by Mrs Phyllis Watson, who was given them by Mrs. Lorne MacGregor, whose father actually received the letter sent Sept 22, 1843.
Scope and Content
This fonds consists of two handwritten letters from Laird Archibald McNab and William Yuill of White Lake to David Russell of Pakenham. The letters are regarding terms of a rental agreement for a sawmill on the Waba River. The first letter asks David Russell to set a fair rent price for the sawmill. The second letter, written a year later, asks the same question. The letters were written at Waba Cottage and signed by both men. One contains the remnants of a wax seal.
