From a description of the letter in Peter Hessel's book, McNab: The Township: 'Laird to Allan from Montreal. "By the papers you will see that Lord Metcalfe has left us as Governor, this will be much against me ... who the next Governor may be, God only knows." The Laird complained about his "side", but was taking the "necessary and strong medicines".'
