The Manson Chemical Co. owned a plant in Hawkesbury in the 1920's. They experimented with products similar to Ten Test but was not profitable. It closed during the depression with considerable losses. John Albert Gillies was a shareholder of this company and a director in 1920 along with John Stark Gillies and David Armatage Gillies.

Fonds consists of various business records of the Gillies Bros. lumber company of Braeside Ontario. It also consists of a few items related to Manson Chemical Co. which was a partner with Gillies Bros. in the late 1920's and one item pertaining to Consolidated Paper Corporation.
