Finding Aid - Birth, Marriage, and Death Newspaper Abstracts

All Births | All Marriages | All Deaths

We are excited to announce that our birth, marriage, and death (BMD) abstracts are now available online. Here you can find and view short summaries of birth and marriage announcements, obituaries and death notices from the earliest issues of our newspapers (from the late 1800s up to 1934.) Each abstract is its own searchable record and, where available, there is a link to the digitized page of the newspaper where it originally appeared. The abstracts are from a variety of newspapers, with the Arnprior Chronicle being the most prevalent by far. The complete list of the newspaper titles that were digitized is available here.

To search: Use the search engine above to search only within the BMD newspaper abstracts, or go to the main search screen to find records across all of our holdings at the same time. Once you find the record you're looking for, click on the link to the newspaper page and search within the page to locate the notice. Not all newspapers listed in the abstracts are digitized. Most of the missing issues are from microfilm copies of newspapers which have not yet been digitized, and are available by visiting or contacting the archives.

To browse: Click on one of the abstracts below. Each is sorted alphabetically. Entries are from the Arnprior Chronicle, unless another newspaper is cited. There are no links to the corresponding newspaper PDF page, but it can be useful to see the abstracts grouped together.

Please be patient as some of the issues may be slow to load.

Our thanks to the Ottawa Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society who provided the funding for this project.
