The Gordon Cup was named after J. P. Gordon from Renfrew who donated the first cup in August of 1930. His goal was to promote an intimate association between the golfers of the four clubs who originally made up the tournament: Renfrew, Arnprior, Pembroke and Mississippi. In 1953, an application was made by Deep River but they were not accepted into the tournament until 1981. R. A. Jeffrey of Arnprior was the first Gordon Cup Custodian.
