Scope and Content
From a description of the letter in Peter Hessel's book, McNab: The Township: 'Laird to Allan from Hamilton. He sent medicine for Catherine from Montreal. Also in Montreal he had selected some apple trees to be planted at White Lake, but they had not yet been sent. He discussed legal and financial affairs in connection with timber duties and the White Lake dam. He again discussed Allan's education in Kingston. "When in Montreal I resigned my command to government, and as a compliment was desired to appoint the office to my late regiment, and they are as follows: Government appoints the field officers (Alex. McDonnell of course Lieut. Colonel). I have appointed you Captain of the McNab Company ..." (there is a list of names for the Pakenham, Horton, Bagot and Blythfield companies).
